Clay, as my primary material for expression, has given me so much fulfillment and pleasure. There is nothing better than being able to give 100% of yourself into the creative process. It is very exciting to see the results and fruits of my labor. The best part is having other people appreciate my work and hearing about how they enjoy using or seeing it daily.
My sculptures are hand-built using different building techniques. I glaze each one according to what each piece calls for. My functional work is also hand-built with coils, slabs, or pinching techniques and also thrown on the potter’s wheel. I use different red and white low fire clays and am using some mid-range clays at the moment. I enjoy experimenting with new designs and I decorate my pieces of pottery by drawing into the clay slip and using colored and transparent glazes and stains. I love telling stories with my work. In the dance between my hands and clay there is a boundless canvas where my imagination finds freedom. I love the malleability and feeling of the clay which offers an endless stream of possibilities waiting to be shaped and molded.
